 1. What is Composting?

1. Search for videos on You Tube that describe what composting is.

2. After watching the videos read the sections labelled "What is Composting" in the following pamphlets: "Home Composting" and "Composting."

3. In your own words answer the question "What is Composting?"

 2. Why Should I Compost?

1. View the film "Why Should I Compost." 

2. Read the section "Why Should I Compost" in the pamphlet "Here's the Dirt: Back Yard Compost and Home Composting" (black and white version). 

3. Write a paragraph explaining why we should compost.  Your paragraph should include at least five specific reasons why composting is important.

 3. What Should I Compost?

1. View the video below: "Sources of Carbon for Your Compost." 

2. After watching the video, read the section "What Should I Compost?" from the following pamphlets - Home Composting (coloured version) and Here’s the Dirt: Back Yard Composting to complete questions 1-9 (provided).

 4. How Does It Work?

For Station 4, join Jonathan or Laura to find out how composting works.Then view the two videos below. After viewing both videos, go to the composting page on the North Shore Recycling website and scroll down to the section "How Composting Works."  Answer the questions provided. 

 
 

 

 

 5. Trouble Shooting the Pile

Explain how to solve common composting problems (sheet provided) after viewing the video below and consulting the  pamphlet Here's the Dirt: Backyard Composting and Home Composting (coloured version). 

 6. Vocabulary

1. Refer to the book Going Green Grd 6-8 (available on Google Books) and to the sheet titled "Composting Vocabulary" from the Delaware Waste Authority to define the terms below. 

2. Now you know what the words mean, write a paragraph using all of them.
