Research

The Research Quest Model involves the following 5 steps:

1. FOCUS

  • What is the purpose of my project?
  • Who is my audience?
  • What do I know? What do I need to know?
  • What will my final product look like?
  • What is my time schedule?

2. FIND & FILTER

  • Explore different types of resources (print, electronic, observations, interviews etc).
  • Evaluate and select the most appropriate resources.
  • Make notes and record your sources.
  • Revise research questions if necessary.

3. WORK WITH THE INFORMATION

  • Interpret, analyze, and synthesize ideas to make them your own.
  • Look for patterns in what you read and observe.
  • Make connections with what you already know.
  • Review, revise, reorganize, and edit your information.

4. COMMUNICATE

  • Prepare your final results
  • Decide how you will present your findings

(powerpoint presenation, essay, poster, lab report etc)

5. REFLECT

  • What have I learned?
  • Was the task successfully completed?
  • What worked well?
  • What can I do differently next time?
