Amnesty International

Amnesty Internation is part of Amnesty's Urgent Action network which seeks to defend the rights of prisoners of conscience whose lives and safety are in immediate danger. Each week Amnesty alerts the club sponsor by email to a particularly urgent human rights crisis and provides background information about the country and government involved. It might be a disappearance, sudden arrest, torture or imminent execution. The group meets at lunch to discuss the issue and then each student goes home to write a letter to the government and authorities involved urging them to respect the human rights of each prisoner of conscience and to observe the standards of justice identified in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

We welcome students from every grade who are concerned with issues of human rights, wish to become better informed and are willing to take the responsibility to write a letter each week as part of our commitment to the Urgent Action network
